It seems like "what ifs" here are pertaining into an emotional thing. I agree, but sometimes, there are some words better left unsaid.

Awww, this is so true. It would be really nice if you can say what you wanted to the person you care about instead of not saying it and thinking about what could have happened if you did let them know.

It is nice yes, however, if you truly know the person, you would know how they will react and how will they understand the situation. These are some things to take in consideration. If you know that the person will react negatively, it would be better not to say it. Maybe choosing his/her peace is more important (in some cases).
