Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan

Crazy Rich Asians is part of a series, the first book in the series created by Kevin Kwan. It is a Hilarious and entertaining book that mainly tackles the lives of crazy rich Asians particularly those with Chinese descent. The book was eventually made into a movie directed by Jon M. Chu. It was starred by premier Asian actors such as Henry Golding, Constance Wu, and Michelle Yeoh among others.

Rachel Chu was an American-born Chinese in the novel. She has an impressive background being an economics professor at the prestigious New York University. She’s that Woman whose Career focused and has an American dream. On the other hand, we have her boyfriend, Nick Young, who lives modestly in New York, very much different from his life in Singapore.

The couple then had decided to test waters and tried to go back to where they really came from, Asia. They struggled as a couple. There were a lot of insecurities from Rachel having culture shock with Nick's wealthy friends and family, as well as Nick's problem adjusting Rachel's world to his world.

Crazy Rich Asians is that comedic and heavy drama all in one book. A different perspective showcasing how crazy Asians are when it comes to showing their riches. Aside from showing riches, it also shows how Asians value family ties but at the same time the book also shows toxic family culture.

Another note to take, the book is very much different from the movie in terms of how they portray Rachel Chu. I like the movie version better. I like how they portray Rachel Chu as not just an American-born Chinese that they can push over, she’s a strong independent woman that can take a step for herself.

Overall, Crazy Rich Asians is something you would want to read when you feel like reading a rich/poor trope. It offers an energizing and enjoyable glimpse into a world that most of us will never have the opportunity to experience. I absolutely recommend reading Crazy Rich Asians if you're looking for a lighthearted story that would warm your heart this cold season.
