Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens

Where the Crawdads Sing is a Mystery Thriller Novel Written by Delia Owens. This Best Selling Novel Charmed every reader as it sold Millions of Copies Worldwide. Where the Crawdads Sing has a Bizarre Title which also suits its book cover. Many of the books I’ve read were mostly Young adult fiction or RomCom. This is a first read for Crime Fictions for me, and it could also be for you. This book was adapted to live action, starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Taylor John Smith, who played Kya and Tate Walker respectively. At first, This book was introduced to me by swifties because Taylor Swift took part in the Movie’s Theme song entitled ‘Carolina’, however, the book’s lead character, kya, had charmed me the most.

The Plot of the story revolves around Kya Clark, a young lady who lives alone most of her life in the marshland of North Carolina. She’s mostly Isolated from everyone else, only Tate and Chase Andrews visit her a lot in her home. She’s like me, she loves discovering things. She had Scientific Discoveries about the Swampland of North Carolina. Basically, Marshland is her only life, it is where she dedicated her life the most but then Chase Andrews came over. Suddenly, they became friends then lovers, but they did not end up with each other. She then met Tate Walker, a friend she once had. They rekindle the love they once had for each other, however, the news about Chase Andrews death shakes their relationship. Kya was accused of Murdering Chase Andrews, a crime of passion. The Novel then Narrates the battle of Kya to prove her innocence and present who really murdered Chase Andrews.
As for me, It was really the most thrilling book. You’d really think at the end how the Novel had gracefully narrated Kya's story. You’ll get the chills once you find out who really killed Chase Andrews. If you are looking for a Mystery Thriller book with a little bit of Romance and Drama, I think this is the best recommendation for you.

The Fine Print written by Lauren Asher

The Fine Print written by Lauren Asher is the First Installment to its Dreamland Series aka the Three billionaire brothers’ Story. The Novel is a Romantic Comedy book Genre with a slow burn type of Romance. This is where the grumpy and sunshine trope prevails and as well as that boss/billionaire-employee relationship trope.

The Story Follows Zahra, an employee of Dreamland theme park, who as well part of a generational employee of the company. While, the other main lead, Rowan Kane, is the Operating Manager, or basically the temporary director of the theme land. Rowan Kane was given a last will by his grandfather where he needs to prove himself so that he can have a share to the company, hence, he was there operating the said theme land. What I really like about the book is basically the trope, that rich x poor trope. I guess there’s some psychological explanation as to why I really like this kind of trope where a poor woman became Cinderella or Sofia the first who became a princess overnight.

The Novel got a hook on the plot; however, I don’t like how the phasing is slow burn. The relationship is kind of stagnant and slow, maybe I wasn't really a consumer to this type of slow burn Novel. Nevertheless, it is also commendable how societal issues were brought out in the novel like labor rights and inequality or the gap between the rich and the poor, and the Blind sightedness of those in power who only looks up on the company's performance and collectively ignores the welfare of its employees.

The Summer I Turned Pretty (Series#1) by Jenny Han

The Summer I Turned Pretty is a young adult romance book written by Renowned writer of the Best selling book ‘To all the boys I loved before’, Jenny Han. It is the first book of the trilogy. The book was about three teenagers namely Belly, Conrad, and Jeremiah.

This is more of a tear-jerker than a Romantic Comedy Novel.
The Construction of the Novel is just okay, easy to read and relatable. I like how the writer has built up the character throughout the novel, something that I like about story writing. Character Building is one of the toughest elements to introduce in a story because when you just sentence out all the information at one point it will just be too much for the reader to digest.
As for the Plotline, The book is a catch because of its plot cliche where there is only a ‘one-sided-love’ kind of trope. I guess the ugly duck turning into a beautiful swan really adds up to the excitement of reading the book, on the other hand, I just probably not into books that need justification of beautifying oneself just so boys will look at you.
Overall, The Summer I turned Pretty is Recommended if you love reading a book about friendship, romance, and family.

The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

The Song of Achilles is written by Madeline Miller, it was a different take to the famous epic poem called The Iliad. The Novel was written in Patroclus’ perspective. Patroclus was said to be Achilles’ lover in the poem. It was a heavy drama with a few comedic scenes on the side. I must say that this is a Tear-jerker, so you better watch out. I’m sure you’re going to love Patroclus and develop a love-hate relationship with Achilles.

The Novel follow Patroclus' story from when he was still a child to when he met Achilles. Both had fond moments together and one of the beautifully written wholesome novels I’ve ever read. Sure, the book was kind of really written in a kind of Jane Austen way, so, It wasn’t really something I would start to read for someone who’s just beginning to read a book, but the book is something you’d really like to read even if it’s hard to digest.

As for the plot, I really want it to be a Patroclus centered book, but it was more of a Greek god-centered book but it’s fine. It brought out a lot of societal issues that still prevails in our society which is something I love about the book. One of the quotable quotes was like this “When elephants fight, it is the grass that suffers the most”, I kind of relate to it but it is for you to watch out for and tell me who’s going to be the grass after all.

As for me, the book was so great that I didn’t have the guts to read the last few chapters. It is something that will really make you believe about love, a selfless one, the unconditional. Overall, I rate this 4.5/5, the 0.5 is for making me cry.

Book Review: 'Crazy Rich Asians' by Kevin Kwan

Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan

Crazy Rich Asians is part of a series, the first book in the series created by Kevin Kwan. It is a Hilarious and entertaining book that mainly tackles the lives of crazy rich Asians particularly those with Chinese descent. The book was eventually made into a movie directed by Jon M. Chu. It was starred by premier Asian actors such as Henry Golding, Constance Wu, and Michelle Yeoh among others.

Rachel Chu was an American-born Chinese in the novel. She has an impressive background being an economics professor at the prestigious New York University. She’s that Woman whose Career focused and has an American dream. On the other hand, we have her boyfriend, Nick Young, who lives modestly in New York, very much different from his life in Singapore.

The couple then had decided to test waters and tried to go back to where they really came from, Asia. They struggled as a couple. There were a lot of insecurities from Rachel having culture shock with Nick's wealthy friends and family, as well as Nick's problem adjusting Rachel's world to his world.

Crazy Rich Asians is that comedic and heavy drama all in one book. A different perspective showcasing how crazy Asians are when it comes to showing their riches. Aside from showing riches, it also shows how Asians value family ties but at the same time the book also shows toxic family culture.

Another note to take, the book is very much different from the movie in terms of how they portray Rachel Chu. I like the movie version better. I like how they portray Rachel Chu as not just an American-born Chinese that they can push over, she’s a strong independent woman that can take a step for herself.

Overall, Crazy Rich Asians is something you would want to read when you feel like reading a rich/poor trope. It offers an energizing and enjoyable glimpse into a world that most of us will never have the opportunity to experience. I absolutely recommend reading Crazy Rich Asians if you're looking for a lighthearted story that would warm your heart this cold season.

Book Review: 'Rich Dad Poor Dad' by Robert T. Kiyosaki

Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert T. Kiyosaki

If you want an easy-to-understand financial literacy book, this is for you!

Rich Dad Poor Dad is a personal finance book written by Robert Kiyosaki that aims to teach readers how to grow their wealth through wise investments and financial literacy. This is actually a good book to enlighten ourselves with Financial Independence. I remember myself rummaging through the cluster of financial literacy books on the store and this has a catchy writing style. It is simply written that a child could actually understand the text.

While the book offers valuable insights into money management, I’d like to also point out that there are some flaws to it. The book centralizes on anecdotes and personal experiences that often lack concrete advice and actionable steps for readers to take, leaving readers to piece together their own financial plans. Because of its oversimplified nature of explaining financial literacy, some of its advice and examples are heavily scrutinized. For example, the concept of using debt to grow wealth may work for some, but it can also lead to heavy financial burdens and bankruptcy if not used wisely.

As for me, it is a matter of perspective. We should also read other sources so we can cross-check relevant information. It is important that we still observe critical thinking in reading, so we know what part of the text is a major red flag. Nevertheless, I would still recommend this book to those who are still starting to gain knowledge about financial literacy or for those who have zero knowledge about it.

Book Review: 'The Love Hypothesis' by Ali Hazelwood

The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood

If you love The Girl Boss Energy and a spice of romance in graduate school setting this is for you!. You know that ‘she-fell-but-he-fell-harder' trope or that ‘fake-dating’ trope, you gotta check this book out!. "The Love Hypothesis" is a romantic comedy novel written by Ali Hazelwood. Ali Hazelwood is known for her books centering around STEM field and that feminist centric plotline. Her writing style is really amazing, so you won’t be bored even at her first lines, you’ll be so hooked that you’ll cry why you just finish her book in one sitting.

The Protagonist of the Novel "The Love Hypothesis", Olive Smith, is a dedicated and brilliant physicist working towards her PhD. She is driven by her ambition to discover something new and significant in her field. Olive is a classic example of girl boss energy as she is a smart, independent, and confident woman who doesn't shy away from challenges. On the other hand, we have the quirky, charming, and witty young professor, Adam Carlsen.
"The Love Hypothesis" is your go-to comfort novel after a tearjerker book. You’ll really cry out laughing at the humor of the two characters. The plot is greatly laid out and the characters are not your typical perfect, unflawed individuals, which I really like.

I like how both blended well, Overall, "The Love Hypothesis" is a must-read for anyone who loves witty and heartwarming romance novels with a strong female protagonist and girl boss energy. Ali Hazelwood has created a brilliantly written love story that will leave you feeling inspired and uplifted.
