The Song of Achilles is written by Madeline Miller, it was a different take to the famous epic poem called The Iliad. The Novel was written in Patroclus’ perspective. Patroclus was said to be Achilles’ lover in the poem. It was a heavy drama with a few comedic scenes on the side. I must say that this is a Tear-jerker, so you better watch out. I’m sure you’re going to love Patroclus and develop a love-hate relationship with Achilles.

The Novel follow Patroclus' story from when he was still a child to when he met Achilles. Both had fond moments together and one of the beautifully written wholesome novels I’ve ever read. Sure, the book was kind of really written in a kind of Jane Austen way, so, It wasn’t really something I would start to read for someone who’s just beginning to read a book, but the book is something you’d really like to read even if it’s hard to digest.

As for the plot, I really want it to be a Patroclus centered book, but it was more of a Greek god-centered book but it’s fine. It brought out a lot of societal issues that still prevails in our society which is something I love about the book. One of the quotable quotes was like this “When elephants fight, it is the grass that suffers the most”, I kind of relate to it but it is for you to watch out for and tell me who’s going to be the grass after all.

As for me, the book was so great that I didn’t have the guts to read the last few chapters. It is something that will really make you believe about love, a selfless one, the unconditional. Overall, I rate this 4.5/5, the 0.5 is for making me cry.
